Why Settle For That?
Daniel 1
Most of us are quick to say that we love God and are living our lives for Him. If that is so much the case, then why are we so quick to settle for being who others want us to be instead of who God created us to be? I want you to think about it? Are you living to fulfill the call of God on your life or merely to get along with or bring attention to others?
In Daniel 1, we find four young men who encounter an ungodly king with many problems. One of them was his need to be praised. We all know people that crave attention and will do whatever they need to get it. It’s that more dangerous when they are in leadership like Nebuchadnezzar. King Nebuchadnezzar saw the potential in Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. What he didn’t see was their devotion to God.
You see, the enemy wants to feed you from his table so he can use your God given ability for the enemy. But Daniel and the crew refused to settle. In Daniel 1:7, the Bible says: “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.” In the end, these young men came out better than those who settle (Daniel 1:19-20). Why are you settling? What are you settling for instead of standing strong for God?
