Scripture Passage:  John 13:34-35 KJV – A new commandment I give to you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.  By this shall all men know that ye are My disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Love.  It is a word that is thrown around casually.  In today’s time, it is such a loose word that many put it on just about anything and everything.  Some people love a particular kind of clothing. Others love a certain food or drink. Many folks love the way their favorite artist sings their favorite song.  But, is that…love? Love is not simply an emotion. It is an action word. A word that is expressed best by how we treat other people and how those people respond after an encounter with us.

As Christians, our love for God should be an outward expression of how we love others.  Scripture reminds us that it is impossible for us to give the full expression of true love to ourselves or anyone else until we satisfy the requirements of loving God the way that He commands us to love Him (mind, soul, heart, and strength).  The questions that we have to ask ourselves is: What kind of love signs are we displaying? Can people tell that we are Christians by how we love them? Do we forgive easily and often? Can we forgive our enemies and others who have hurt us? Do we even want to be loving for its own sake and not because we are told to in scripture?

We are admonished to take spiritual self-inventory to make sure that our love is expressed in a way that honors God and points people in the direction to want to know Him, too.
