Proverbs 27:17 “Iron sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”

There is nothing better than having real friends.  Real friends allow you the opportunity to be authentic without fear of rejection.  They listen, cry with you, and encourage you. Real friends are there when everyone else walks away.

Thinking about real friends can make you feel warm and fuzzy inside, but real friends are not about validating our actions or emotions.  Real friends deal with us in reality.  They not only tell us when we’re wrong, but they guide us back towards the right path.  They give us constructive criticism that assist us to become the version of ourselves that God intended.  They tell us the truth, even if it risks the friendship.  Real friends are not only there when things are going well, but they stand firm with us when things are out of control.  Real friends let you vent, cry, scream, and shut down without getting offended.  Real friends are hard to come by, so when you get one, praise God for such an incredible blessing.

Real friends challenge us to do more, go further, and be better.  They do not get jealous, but become major cheerleaders in our lives.

You may think that you do not have a real friend as defined above.  If you are saved, Proverbs 18:24 lets us know that there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother and His name is Jesus.  He does everything stated and so much more. Jesus is a real friend, what an incredible blessing.
